Tournament registration opens at 11 am with free range balls for the driving range and putting green.  The tournament begins with a Shotgun start at 12:30 pm and finishes with a traditional Maryland Crab Feast and awards banquet.  Raffles, prize giveaways, golf contests and golfer goodie bags are all included as part of the golf registration.  Officials at the Mid-Atlantic office of the Make-A-Wish Foundation call this tournament the best organized and most meaningful fundraising event held on their behalf every year.

Last year, despite a very difficult economic environment, we were able to make the wishes of two children come true! The first was for twelve-year-old Foster of Gwynn Oak, Maryland.  His most favorite thing in the world is wrestling. Foster and his family attended the 25^th Anniversary of Wrestle-Mania in Houston, TX. In addition to attending the big event, Foster was inducted into the WWE/Make-A-Wish^® Circle of Champions!  The other wish was for Robert from Forest Hill, Maryland.  Robert is a 15-year-old music lover and his wish was to have a Gibson SG’61 re-issue electric guitar and equipment to create a guitar recording studio. That is just what he received, along with an iMac computer with recording software, a microphone, headphones, and amp. It is truly a humbling experience to be involved in such a worthwhile charity.  Each wish provides the child and their family a diversion from hospital visits and medical treatments and enriches the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine found that women who slept less than five hours a night showed a 32% gain in abdominal fat over a five year period, compared to a 13% gain among those who slept six or seven hours.

A similar study conducted at Sweden ’s Uppsala University found that the waist circumference of women who slept less than five hours a night averaged more than 3.5 inches larger than for those who slept eight hours.  This correlation was particularly strong among younger women.

“Short Sleep duration, short dream sleep and short deep sleep disturb the production of cortisol and growth hormones in a way that can contribute to driving body weight upwards”,” said Jenny Theorell-Haglow, study author. “Sleeping less also means more waking time when it’s possible to eat.”

While the health benefits of a great night’s sleep are generally known, new studies increasingly underscoring the link between sleep disorders and obesity have led some people to seek a better sleep solution.  We recommend those individuals consider a Contour electric adjustable bed.

The Baby Boomer Generation created the sexual revolution and continues to redefine each stage of life they enter.   AARP researchers found that baby boomers have taken their sexual mores with them into their retirement years.  The percentage of respondents who think a person must be married to have sex has dropped by almost half in 10 years, from 41% to 22%.   That statistic is not an endorsement of infidelity– rather it is an assertion of sexual freedom among widows, widowers, divorced and single people.

I just read a book review in Sleep Savvy Magazine for a book written by popular British self-help author Paul McKenna and had to share his insight. In his new book, “I Can Make You Sleep: Overcome Insomnia Forever and Get the Best Rest of Your Life!”, McKenna offers a full range of advice on sleeping better at night, including some words to the wise about the importance of the bed: “For some people, the only solution required to restore their sleep cycle is ridiculously simple: Make sure your bed is comfortable.
